Mel Gibson, ex-girlfriend subject of domestic violence investigation

The Los Angeles Sheriff's Department has opened a domestic violence investigation involving actor Mel Gibson and his ex-girlfriend.

No details about the probe were immediately available, but the Sheriff's Department said in a statement that it is `is currently gathering information regarding the allegations. Due to the investigation being preliminary in nature, no other information is available at this time.

Gibson and his ex-girlfriend have been battling in court over custody of their daughter.

Radar Online reported earlier this month allegations that Gibson used the  N-word during a recorded argument with Oksana Grigorieva.

In an e-mail to The Times, Gibson’s representative Alan Nierob said that he had not yet confirmed the report's accuracy "due to legal matters."

Gibson made headlines three years ago when it was revealed he went on an anti-Semitic rant after being arrested for drunk driving by an L.A. County Sheriff's deputy.
