Marine from Camp Pendleton killed in Afghanistan
A Marine from a Camp Pendleton-based command has been killed in Afghanistan, the Pentagon announced Tuesday.
Staff Sgt. Christopher J. Antonik, 29, of Crystal Lake, Ill., died Sunday during combat operations in Helmand province, long a Taliban stronghold. Antonik was assigned to the 1st Marine Special Operations Battalion of the Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command.
Antonik, a reconnaissance specialist, had served two tours in Iraq.
