Man critically injured in downtown L.A. shooting

A man shot three times in downtown Los Angeles early Sunday was in critical condition at USC hospital, police said.

The victim was wounded in the chest and back in the incident at 5:20 a.m., said Officer Bruce Borihanh of the Los Angeles Police Department.

A suspect was seen fleeing the scene at 7th and Spring streets in a gray or silver minivan, the officer said.

The victim wasn't immediately identified, and Borihanh said police did not yet know if the shooting was gang related.

Not a fan of this type of thing because I live at 5th and Spring!! I know the neighborhood is still in transition, but this is too close for comfort. Luckily, I am in bed at 5am. My sunrise chasing night of partying are long over.

Try seeing that out your window. I live in the building next to where he lay waiting for help. Too close to home, indeed! If this kid would take his drug using friends & self elsewhere, we wouldn't have to deal with this "type of thing" here. He was a target, he f*'d someone over.

@the katz: So where would it be OK for this to happen? I live in the area as well and have lived in LA since birth. Maybe you should go back to the Midwest and do your research before you move again? Skid Row was here before you and it will be here after you.

Chuck, it certainly isn't ok anywhere. If you'll notice, I was responding to the only other comment on here, from Craig, about it being too close to home. I'm well aware of what this neighborhood was and is. I have also been in LA since birth, so get off your high horse. The victim was probably from the Midwest, judging from his ignorance of how the streets are run. I don't believe he deserved it, but it comes with the territory, nothing knew there. Perhaps you can encourage HIM and others like him to leave so that the improvements in our neighborhood can continue.
