Authorities to release new details in double homicide in San Fernando Valley

Canoga Park Homicides Authorities are expected to release new details Wednesday surrounding the arrest of a suspect in the May stabbing deaths of a 21-year-old woman and her 6-year-old daughter in Canoga Park.

Martha Carmona died May 14 in the 6900 block of Remmet Avenue in Canoga Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records. When Los Angeles firefighters responded to a call of a stabbing at the residence, they found the bodies of Carmona and her 6-year-old daughter.

The woman and her child were pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said shortly after the incident. Each of the victims had knife wounds, according to investigators.

Police interviewed Carmona’s husband after the bodies were found, but no suspect or motive were immediately determined.

A news conference is scheduled for this afternoon.

“The announcement at today’s press conference will give details of the arrest in this case,” said officer April Harding, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Police Department. “No further details are available until after the press conference.”
