Judge sentences Lindsay Lohan to jail [Updated]
A Beverly Hills judge ruled Tuesday that Lindsay Lohan violated the terms of her probation in a drunk-driving case when she failed to attend alcohol education classes and sentenced her to 90 days in jail.
Judge Marsha N. Revel stated several instances over the last few years in which the actress lied about taking drugs and drinking.
"It's like someone who cheats but doesn't think it's cheating if they don't get caught," Revel said.
[Updated at 3:47 p.m.: The judge said that Lohan had repeatedly deceived authorities following her first drunk-driving arrest in 2007. She said Lohan lied by pretending she was not the driver in that case. Two months later Lohan was arrested for drunk driving.
"Once again she lied about her driving," Revel said.
The judge said Lohan again lied when a white substance was found in her pants and tried to say they were someone's else pants. Revel said she tested positive for cocaine after the arrest.
"She lied then and lied prior to that," Revel said.
In addition to 90 days in jail, the judge sentenced Lohan to 90 days in a drug rehab center.]
Before sentencing, a tearful Lohan addressed the court, saying "as far as I knew I was in compliance with my programs.”
“I wasn’t trying to get special treatment," the actress said. "I have to provide for myself. I have to work. Having said that, I did everything to balance my jobs and showing up. I’m not taking this as a joke. It’s my life. It’s my career. ... I take responsibility for my actions. I’ve tried to do the best I can. It’s been such a long haul, I don’t want you to think that I don’t respect you.”
Prosecutors had argued that the star of "Mean Girls," "Freaky Friday" and "Herbie Fully Loaded" failed to comply with the weekly attendance directive for her alcohol education classes. An operator of the class testified that Lohan had nine absences.
Revel was critical of program operator Cheryl Marshall for failing to report Lohan's absences to the court before the actress had her bail revoked when the alarm on her alcohol monitoring device was triggered on June 6. That was the same night that Lohan attended the MTV Movie Awards.
[Updated at 12:41 a.m. July 7: An earlier version of this post incorrectly said Lohan's alcohol monitoring device was triggered the night that Lohan had attended the MTV Music Awards.]
Under questions from the prosecutor, Marshall told the court that Lohan did not sign in on some days the program claimed she had attended and that her signature was on a sign-in sheet on a day she did not attend. Marshall revealed Lohan never attended group meetings but opted for one-on-one sessions because of privacy concerns.
Defense attorney Shawn Chapman Holley argued that Lohan was "absolutely on track to finish the program" and had complied with most of the court's orders.
In considering her punishment, Revel said she considered whether Lohan violated her probation only for the actress' failure to attend some scheduled alcohol education classes, not because the alcohol-detection bracelet that Lohan was ordered to wear had been triggered following the MTV Movie Awards.
On June 8, Revel issued an arrest warrant for Lohan after the alarm on her monitoring device was triggered. The alarm typically sounds when the bracelet is tampered with or if the person wearing it consumes alcohol. The SCRAM device, or Secure Continuous Remote Alcohol Monitor, checks for traces of alcohol in the air above the user's skin.
Revel ordered Lohan to be fitted with the device May 24 after Lohan failed to show up the previous week for a mandatory progress review on whether she was abiding by the terms of her probation.

This menace to society needs to go away for good

YES. Too bad they didn't give her more time.

Lohan is going to JAIL...what a great hearing this afternoon. I watched it via FoxNews Live and could tell right away that things weren't going well for this little lolita (little "l").
She has spat in the face of justice and The People for too long and I am glad the "Madonna" of this century is finally getting her just desserts.
She's never been spanked...she just went straight to jail where she belongs for her lying, stealing, cheating ways and I'm gonna sleep well tonight...not that I haven't before I knew who she was....
The spoiled brat deserves what's coming to her. GOOD RIDDANCE!

Sounds reasonable to me. Lohan should get herself straight or the results will be:
1. Dead
2. In jail

....Makes me wish I was a prison guard with a bottle of wine.

Sadly she will probably not come close to serving a week.

...who is Lindsay Lohan...is she someone important?

Lohan is a little tramp who thinks she is better than the average person. I'm so proud of the judge for sending her to jail. I hope he sticks to it instead of like the other judge that let Paris out after a few hours.

pffff!...i feel sorry for her NOT!
Lindsay Lohan needs to learn that being famous does not exscuse her from being sent to jail for violating the terms of her probation.
When will these sad case actresses ever learn!

Our news is celebrity driven and our culture is truly sick that we care about this. The Drug War is a joke since the CIA grows, deals and protects profits while punishing innocent people like Lohan.

Once the judge determined that Miss Lohan had violated her probation, she revoked it and sentenced her to 3 consecutive 30 day jail terms on the original charges. Those aggravated facts didn't just include the two DUIs. They included lying to the cops 3 times about who was driving and the fact that she was chasing someone with a car when she was drunk at approximately 80 mph through the streets of Los Angeles...plus cocaine was found in her jeans. There was a positive drug test as well.
She was not sentenced to jail for not attending her rehab sessions. That was the cause for determining that she had violated her probation and reinstating the original charges. That was when the obligatory tears came from Miss Lohan. It didn't work this time.
The judge did give her a break when she gave her 2 weeks to surrender to serve her sentence.
She also was sentenced to a 90 day in-patient rehab course...which I believe will help her in the long run.
It's too bad that it had to happen, but I believe that she got exactly what she deserved.
Lindsay Lohan has no one to blame but herself.

Can we lock this girl up already. I mean if she had any color on her skin would she be allowed 2 weeks to surrender. Holy cow. Can we do that, ask for time to surrender. I bet Pablo Escobar wishes he would have thought of that. "Excuse me your honor, I know I am a drug king pin and I violate the law, but em' you think I can surrender later?" WAHAHA. Then she asked if her drunk bracelet can be taken off before surrender. The dumb girl is pretty much saying "Hey I need to get drunk once more since your locking me up". Yet every one stays so formal and pretends they don't see all the underlying notes happening. Ah well. Hopefully she does her minimal time ordered and does not get released after 20 minutes again because she paid the DA outside to be let her go due to overcrowding. The judge seems fed up and I am tired of seeing her ugly drug ridden alcohol poisoned scowl on my entertainment page while I am trying to find out who is talking trash on who, or who is cheating on whom. Priorities people. Can you hear me hee hee...

She's lucky she didn't get more time behind bars. She flaunted her fame and fortune to the wrong person. She has been caught lying so many times by the Judge. She must think she's the smartest person in H-wood. Yet she is given until July 20 to turn herself in to jail. Anyone else would be led out of the courtroom in handcuffs.

Is she REALLY going to serve all of the jail time that the Judge set? Or is the "JAIL" going to let her out in an hour or two, like they have done before???? She needs to serve her time just like any other person would have to!!! She thinks that this whole thing is a Big Joke!!! She has made a mockery out of the Justice System!!! She thinks she is above the law!!!! She endangered many people. The stole a vehicle with people in it and basically told those guys that she is a Big star and she is above the law!! Give me a break. She needs to go to jail just like the Judge imposed. She says that she was working... Really??? What was she doing for work??? She hasn't worked in a while. She even tried to use her uncle's death as an excuse and she didn't even go to the funeral. That is just disgusting to use that as an excuse. She should be ashamed of herself. Lindsay needs to take responsibility for her actions and grown up. I wonder if she was paid today for the acting job that she tried in court today. She really thought because she is who she is, then she would not get jail time!!! Well, I guess that backfired on her!!! Have fun in jail!

This is just sad. I don't know her so I can't say she deserves it. I've seen so many people fall into this pit of despair. Some deserve it and some really do just make bad mistakes and don't know any better. I just hope she is the latter. Either way I'll pray she'll find the right path that is most suitable for her.

I do feel for her, just out of compassion. But to say she was taking her program seriously is a lie, considering all she had to do was show up once a week for an hour. Also, if Lindsey Schmohan the waitress at Denny's fails to show up to court for her drug and/or alcohol related case, she would've been in jail a long time ago.
I do hope she gets well, beats those demons and gets both her life and career back on track. That goes for anybody, really, suffering from addiction problems. Good luck and stay strong!

Well, if Ms. Lohan gets close to Sheriff Baca maybe Baca will let her go like he did Paris Hilton? Nah! Lohan doesn't have the type of money and influence needed to have Baca let her go!

I hope that the judge ordered her from the courtroom to jail as is customary for everyone else. None of this 2 wks to sort out your life before you go. More hollydeadwoods would situp and listen if this was the SOP. Hope this one gets her life worked out before she is dead or kills someone else.

She won't do any more jail time. She'll appeal the jail sentence and the "drama" will go on and on and on and on..

With the state, county and city being bankrupt, I would think that spending very scarce jail funds on her, and not on violent and dangerous criminals is the wrong message to send to the taxpayers right now.

Lindsey Lohan is a alcoholic just like her father and his father before him. unless Lindsey gets help she will always be a loser "albeit a rich one" and continue the family tradition of being a drunk and a hell raiser.
