Two Marines from base at Twentynine Palms killed in Afghanistan

Two Marines from the base at Twentynine Palms have been killed in Afghanistan, the Pentagon announced Thursday.

Cpl. Kevin A.  Cueto, 23, of San Jose, and Cpl. Claudio Patino IV, 22, of Yorba Linda, were killed Tuesday while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, a longtime Taliban stronghold.

Cueto and Patino were assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, based at the Marine Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms, part of the Camp Pendleton-based 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force.

Twenty-one Marines from Twentynine Palms have been killed in Afghanistan.
