Riverside County man wounded in confrontation with deputies

June 9, 2010 | 10:05 pm
A Riverside County man was wounded Wednesday afternoon by sheriff's deputies after he pointed at gun at the officers, authorities said.

Fredy Jimenez Campos, 18, pointed the handgun at Riverside County Sheriff's Department deputies after they responded to reports that he had tried to choke his girlfriend, the department said.

One of the deputies, fearing for his life, fired at least three rounds after Campos refused to come out of the Rubidoux residence where the incident occurred, according to the department.

Campos was grazed in the forehead as he stood near a window. He surrendered several minutes later and was taken to a hospital.

The incident is under investigation.
