Riverside County mother convicted in beating death of son

June 3, 2010 |  4:20 pm
An Indio mother was convicted Thursday of beating her 21-month-old son to death in 2007.

Ana Alica Cedillo, 27, was convicted of murder after the bruised and bloody body of her son Oscar was found inside the home on Sept. 28, 2007, the Riverside County district attorney's office said.

Prosecutors said Oscar had multiple blunt-trauma injuries to his head, a fatally ruptured intestine, rib fractures and a missing tooth.

Cedillo had previous contact with the county's Child Protective Services Department, which forced her to take a parenting class, according to prosecutors.

"The person who should have been protecting baby Oscar was the person who tormented him and cut his life short," Dist. Atty. Rod Pacheco said in a statement.

Cedillo is scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 6 and faces 15 years to life in prison.
