Montebello police shot and killed a man about 6:30 p.m. Sunday, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, which was investigating.

Sheriff's Deputy Benjamin Grubb said sheriff's homicide detectives respond to homicides as well as officer-involved shootings in smaller cities that contract with the department for those services.

Grubb had no details on the circumstances surrounding the shooting or the identity of the man killed, except to say that no Montebello police officers sustained injuries.

The shooting took place in in the 500 block of Emmet Williams Way near Montebello Boulevard.

Montebello city and police officials were unavailable for comment.
