Long Beach police Monday were looking for help from the public regarding the death of a 2-year-old boy who appears to have drowned in his bathtub.

Fire Department personnel and police officers responded Saturday afternoon in the 1100 block of San Antonio Drive to a call for help regarding a boy in a bathtub, the Long Beach Police Department said.

Custody of the child was shared by his parents. He was with his father when the incident occurred, police said.

The investigation is ongoing, and no official cause of death had been determined as of Monday.

Anyone with information is asked to call Det. Patrick O’Dowd or Det. Terri Hubert at (562) 570-7244.

[Updated Tuesday at 10:40 a.m.: Los Angeles County coroner's officials identified the boy as Joseph Byrd and have listed his death as a homicide. Joseph would have turned 3 in August, according to coroner's records.]
