Lindsay Lohan's alcohol monitoring bracelet alarm goes off on night of MTV awards, source says

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/photos/uncategorized/2008/04/30/lindsay_lohan_3.jpgLindsay Lohan’s court-ordered alcohol-monitoring bracelet's alarm went off Sunday evening, alerting authorities, according to a source familiar with the case.

The source said it's unclear why the alarm went off. The device alerts a monitoring company if it is tampered with or the person wearing consumes alcohol. The monitoring company reports to the Los Angeles County Probation Department and the Superior Court judge in Beverly Hills who is handling Lohan's case.

Details of the incident were unclear. Lohan attended the MTV Movie Awards the night the device when off.

Judge Marsha Revel will then decide whether the alarm constitutes a violation of the actress' bail agreement related to a probation violation on a 2007 drunk driving case. Revel ordered Lohan to wear the bracelet and told her not to consume alcohol.

The source spoke on the condition of anonymity because that person was not authorized to speak about the case.

Revel could order the immediate revocation of the 23-year-old actress’ bail and send Lohan to jail if she determines she violated the conditions of her release.

The bracelet checks for traces of alcohol in the perspiration of the user. Any effort to tamper with the 10-ounce device immediately sends out an alert. The device was fitted on Lohan’s ankle at the courthouse following a May 24 hearing.

Her attorney could not immediately be reached for comment.

Why can't she drink alcohol? A DUII does not make you an alcoholic; MILLIONS & MILLIONS of people drive drunk.

To save Lindsay (once and for all), Judge Marsha Revel needs to step up to the plate and have Lohan jailed.

WOW, big surprise....NOT!

Who is Lindsay Lohan, other than some boozer, and why should I care?

Must be wine in pasta sauce.

I wonder how much taxpayer money has been wasted on this case so far?

And this is supposed to be a suprised or news. Lovely appearing female without a clue as to how to be a real person or live in the real world. Typical of the Hollywood mentality.

Hey Lindsay, you may have a legal out when the alarm goes off at a big awards program. In general its good to remember that this is not a cop, just another dumb device and has weaknesses that an expert can testify to in court. You were surrounded by drunken actors and crew. If you allege that you stepped in an alcohol puddle and splashed your leg, guess what, just a drop of splatter and the bracelet goes off!

I think its actually a plausible scenario to step in an alcohol or puke puddle at an event where huge numbers of people are drunk. And the beautiful thing about this excuse is that it is hard to refute because nobody may have noticed you stepping on a wet spot of carpet but yourself.

What a loser.

It's about time the judge throws this 40+ year old looking washed up drunk in jail.

Not concerned about the monitor, but look at her cheeks - the ones on her face :) - it looks like she has had fake cheeks put in. Hope it's just makeup. She is too young and beautiful to be having plastic surgery on her face (or anywhere else really). She is no dog and should be proud of her natural looks.

Can this chick be any more annoying than she has to be. Like nobody thinks that all this drama is a P.R. stint! Come on.

I wonder if the alarm could go off were a drink to be spilled on Lohan's ankle?

This is untrue. Scram bracelets do not "go off" or sound any sort of alarm to the person wearing it. Go back to accurate information please.

Lock her up and be done with her.

Get the handcuffs and orange jumpsuit ready. Lindsay might be home for dinner ladies

A few comments....

-- If that happened to me or someone else non-famous, would the police have shown up at my house the second it went off? If so... why not her that evening?
-- Second... isnt this going too far? I understand the perils of drunk driving, but think about it-- Lindsay didnt kill anyone, basically committed a victimless crime, yet has to wear a bracelet that monitors her lifestyle 24X7... Its right out of an Orwell novel, or something. While we are force fed this behavior now from our government, this sort of stuff would have been completely unacceptable just 50 years ago...

And this is a surprise why?

Let's hope she doesn't wiggle out of this one.

Anyone want to make any guesses as to what her wild explanation might be?

Her dead uncle came back from the dead and tried to remove it? Some stranger spilled a glass of MD20/20 on her ankle? Someone stole her ankle bracelet, put it on and promptly proceeded to frame her by downing a bottle of Jack?

Can't wait to hear.

All Lohan has done so far is exhibit the behaivioral patterns of a severe addict. Both booze and drugs. This person needs to off the streets and in a very good Treatment and Recovery facility.

So? Show me some REAL news!

@Jody, the alarm "went off" to whomever was monitoring that bracelet. Think of it as being like a silent alarm at the bank that calls the cops without alerting the robbers.

So? Show me some REAL news!

Poor girl.

If she didn't drive from the event, why should the court even care about it.

Drinking booze while not driving is not threatening to anyone.

Throw this moron in jail as I am sure a non-celebrity would already be eating that wonderful jail food!
