Four teens injured in post-prom car crash in Garden Grove

Authorities say alcohol and street racing may have led to a Garden Grove car crash that injured four teenagers leaving their high school prom.

The Marina High students had left the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim and were traveling south on West Street about 12:30 a.m. Sunday when their silver BMW struck a parked truck near Reva Drive, said officials with the Garden Grove Police Department.

A light pole near the truck was knocked down in the crash. An 18-year-old male was at the wheel, and police believe illegal street racing and alcohol were factors in the crash.

According to Marina High's website, prom attendees and their parents were required to sign contracts before the event stating that any guest suspected of using alcohol would be removed from the dance.

All four occupants were taken to UCI Medical Center with serious injuries, Garden Grove police said. An investigation was continuing.

Witnesses are asked to contact Garden Grove police at (714) 741-5704.
