Man missing after Bel-Air party; police suspend efforts to find him

June 28, 2010 | 10:06 am

Los Angeles police have suspended their search for a missing 20-year-old Brentwood man because he was healthy and mentally alert when he was last seen at a late-night party in Bel-Air.

College student James Daniel O'Connell, who attended the private party in the Bel Air-Beverly Crest neighborhood, was last seen by his brother around 1:30 a.m. Saturday, Officer April Harding of the Los Angeles Police Department said Monday.

When O'Connell's brother returned later Saturday to look for him, he was nowhere to be found, Harding said.

Police dispatched a squad car and a helicopter to search for the 5-foot-7, 140-pound man, but officers were unable to locate him. Search efforts have since been suspended because O'Connell was physically healthy and mentally alert, Harding said.

O'Connell is a student at Lafayette College in Pennsylvania.
