Big pro-Israel rally to shut Wilshire Boulevard near Hancock Park

June 6, 2010 |  9:11 am

A pro-Israel rally sponsored by the Consulate General of Israel in Los Angeles will cause a portion of Wilshire Boulevard in the Hancock Park area to be closed for part of Sunday.

The "One with Israel" event is aimed at showing solidarity with the nation amid the international controversy over Israel's deadly raid of a flotilla heading to Gaza last week.

The rally will begin at 2 p.m. in front of the consulate on the 6300 block of Wilshire just east of La Cienega Boulevard. The road will be closed and motorists will be diverted to other routes.

Officials said there would be various guests and speaker at the event, including activists and politicians.

Consulate General Jacob Dayan said in a statement that the goal was to "show Israel that she has friends across the globe."

Several rallies have taken place in Los Angeles in the last week both supporting and criticizing Israel's actions.
