Arrests made in 2008 slaying of aspiring model in Santa Monica [Updated]
Santa Monica police detectives arrested Kelly Soo Park, 44, and Ronnie Wayne Case, 34, in Camarillo on Thursday. The arrests came more than two years after Juliana Redding, a 21-year-old from Arizona, was killed.
Police described the two suspects as roommates in Camarillo. Their connection to Redding, if any, or potential motive is not being disclosed because authorities may be tracking other potential suspects, said Sgt. Jay Trisler with the Santa Monica Police Department.
Redding, who worked part time at a Venice tapas bar and did modeling gigs on the side, was found dead inside her Santa Monica apartment in March 2008. Police were dispatched to Redding's apartment in the 1500 block of Centinela Avenue after her mother had called from Tucson to tell them she had been unable to reach her daughter by phone.
Redding's body showed signs of physical assault. The slaying set off shock waves in the affluent neighborhood around Santa Monica Boulevard and Centinela Avenue, where rent for one-bedroom apartments can go north of $2,000 a month.
Authorities said they devoted "thousands" of hours to the investigation, working in cooperation with other local law enforcement agencies and the FBI.
Park and Case were arrested in Camarillo without incident, police said. The two suspects will be arraigned at the airport courthouse Monday on charges of murder with special circumstances, and conspiracy.
Anyone who knows the suspects or has information regarding Redding's death is asked to call police at (310) 458-8488.
[Updated at 3:50 p.m.: Though Case was arrested, the district attorney's office declined Monday to charge him, pending further investigation.]
