James Daniel O'ConnellA Brentwood man who had been reported missing after he was last seen early Saturday was killed in a vehicle accident on the 405 Freeway over the weekend, police said Monday afternoon.

James Daniel O'Connell, 20, had attended a private party in the Bel-Air/Beverly Crest neighborhood and was last seen by his brother about 1:30 a.m. Saturday, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

Police had dispatched a squad car and a helicopter to search for the 5-foot-7, 140-pound man, but officers couldn't find him. Police later suspended the search.

Los Angeles police detectives were notified by the coroner's office Monday afternoon that O'Connell had died in a freeway accident near the Getty Center.

"He was the individual who perished in that early morning traffic collision on the 405," said LAPD Det. Gus Villanueva.

O'Connell was a student at Lafayette College in Pennsylvania, according to police.
