Woman found dead off San Pedro cliff

A woman was found dead Monday at the bottom of a San Pedro cliff, near where a USC football player plunged to his death three years ago, police said.

LAPD Sgt. Helen Papietro said a witness called police after the unidentified woman leaped off the cliff at the Point Fermin Lighthouse onto the rocky beach below.

Her death was under investigation, but it appeared to be a suicide, Papietro said.

The body of Trojan starting kicker Mario Danelo was found at the bottom of the same cliff in January 2007, not far from the family’s home in San Pedro. He was the son of NFL kicker Joe Danelo.
