Universal Studios water-main break sends geyser into the Los Angeles River

May 16, 2010 | 12:44 pm

A break in a water line that feeds Universal Studios sent torrents of water into the Los Angeles River early Sunday.

Los Angeles firefighters were called to the 3700 block of Barham Boulevard near Lakeside Plaza Drive at about 9:44 a.m., after a passerby reported water flowing over an embankment.   No homes were threatened, said fire department spokesman Brian Humphrey.

Department of Water and Power crews were helping workers from Universal Studios to shut off the flow, said  Water and Power spokeswoman Maychelle Yee.
