Police in Huntington Beach have launched an investigation into who leaked a photo of mixed martial arts star Tito Ortiz in jail after he was arrested last week in a domestic battery case.

The photo was posted on the celebrity website TMZ.com, but police Lt. Russell Reinhart said no one was authorized to release the photo.

“The employee who took it was not authorized to release it to anyone,” Reinhart told the Huntington Beach Independent in an e-mail. “This is being handled as an internal personnel matter, and we cannot comment further.”

The photograph, taken of a video monitor, shows Ortiz sitting in the Huntington Beach jail.

Jacob Christopher “Tito” Ortiz, 35, was arrested just before noon April 26 in the house he shares with former porn star Jenna Jameson in Huntington Beach.

Police were called by Jameson's father at 9:53 a.m. over a possible domestic dispute at Ortiz and Jameson’s house in the 16700 block of Baruna Lane, officials said.

Ortiz has strongly denied he hit Jameson. In a tearful news conference, he said the dispute centered on her drug use. She has denied that, saying Ortiz hit her.
