Man slain in South Gate shooting

Click here for a Times database of South Gate homicides. A man was shot dead in South Gate on Monday afternoon, authorities said.

Detectives were responding at the scene in the 8100 block of Madison Avenue, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said. The shooting was reported shortly before 6 p.m.

Since January 2007, at least 26 homicides have been reported in South Gate, according to a database compiled by the Times' Homicide Report.

A majority of the victims died from gunshot wounds, according to the database.

The victim in Monday's slaying was described only as an adult male. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His name and age had not been determined, the department said.

No additional details were available.
