School bus catches fire on L.A. freeway

Two students suffered minor smoke inhalation when a school bus caught fire Wednesday on a Los Angeles freeway, officials said.

It was not immediately clear what caused the fire, which engulfed the bus shortly before 9 a.m. on the southbound Hollywood Freeway near Universal City, said Erik Scott, spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Fire crews extinguished the blaze in 11 minutes, Scott said. He did not know the victims’ ages, genders or what school they attend.

Passing drivers stopped to help evacuate the students, said Officer Christina Tirado of the California Highway Patrol. She said no other vehicles were involved in the incident.

As a school administrator, I would like to know the make and model of the bus that erupted into flames on May 19th. This story was very disturbing. More information about the bus and cause of the fire would be greatly helpful.
