O.C. plastic surgeon accused of sexual misconduct [Updated]

May 5, 2010 |  8:05 am

The California Medical Board is moving to discipline an Orange County plastic surgeon who allegedly kissed and had sex with patients.

Mark A. Knight, who runs the American Institute of Surgery in Irvine, is accused of having sex with a woman on whom he had performed tummy tuck surgery weeks before, according to medical board documents.

The woman’s husband was waiting outside Knight’s office in a car with the couple's children, according to the documents. He went inside Knight’s office to take his children to the bathroom and heard moaning sounds. He opened the doctor’s door and found his wife and the doctor having sex.

In another incident, a patient claimed Knight had kissed her several times during a visit following breast augmentation surgery.

Knight, a Jamaican immigrant and former Navy surgeon, has had a medical license since 2002.

[For the record at 9:12 a.m.: An earlier version of this post stated that Knight's license was being suspended. If the sexual-misconduct accusations are substantiated, state guidelines call for a minimum penalty of seven years probation up to a maximum penalty of revocation of his license to practice medicine in California.]
