Missing Lake Forest woman found by rescue team

May 27, 2010 |  6:05 pm
A missing Lake Forest mother was found Thursday afternoon, authorities said.

Salma Husna Banu, who was reported missing Wednesday, was found alive in a canyon area and was being taken to a hospital, the Orange County Sheriff's Department said.

The extent of her condition was not immediately known, but she was found by a search and rescue team, the department said. The team had been searching a wilderness area near Rancho Santa Margarita.

Banu — known as "Polly" — was last seen Wednesday between 3 and 4 p.m., when she dropped her children off at home, authorities said. She said she was going to the store, authorities said.

The four-door green Ford Excursion that Banu was driving was later found in Rancho Santa Margarita, authorities said.

More than a dozen members of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department's search and rescue team began to look for Banu at 6 a.m. Thursday at Melinda Road and Altisima, a wooded wilderness area, authorities said.
