Man fatally shot in South Los Angeles

A man believed to be in his 20s was fatally shot Sunday in the Vermont-Slauson neighborhood of South Los Angeles, authorities said.

The shooting took place about 7 a.m. in the 5900 block of South Figueroa Street, Los Angeles police Officer Cleon Joseph said. A witness reported seeing a male suspect approach the victim, shoot and flee. 

The victim had at least one gunshot wound to the upper torso, Joseph said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have yet to determine whether the incident was gang-related.
