May 28, 2010 |  7:32 am

Los Angeles policy say a man fatally shot by an officer in North Hills was reported to have mental problems.

Oscar Morales, 21, was allegedly wielding a 24-inch steel fireplace poker Thursday afternoon when he charged at police in the 8300 block of Burnet Avenue, said Officer April Harding of the LAPD.

The shooting was under investigation. Police said they were told the man had mental health problems when the call to respond came in.

Since January 2007, at least 121 officer-involved homicides have been reported in Los Angeles County, according to a database compiled by The Times' Homicide Report.
