Man killed in Long Beach shooting

Long Beach police were investigating a shooting Tuesday evening that left a 26-year-old man dead.

Officers responded to reports of shots fired on Harding Street just east of Atlantic Avenue shortly before 5 p.m., according to the Long Beach Police Department. Officers found the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man's name has yet to be released pending notification of relatives, said department spokeswoman Nancy Pratt.

Since January 2007, at least 145 homicides have been reported in Long Beach, according to The Times' Homicide Report.

As of Tuesday night, no arrests had been made in the latest slaying, police said.
