Immigration march jams Westside traffic on 405, Wilshire Boulevard

May 20, 2010 | 11:54 am

Motorists are being advised to avoid the area of the 405 Freeway at Wilshire Boulevard in Westwood due to heavy congestion caused by an immigrants-rights demonstration at the nearby Federal Building, authorities said.

The Wilshire Boulevard offramp on the northbound 405 has been temporarily closed, and traffic is severely backed up on the freeway and area streets, said Officer Krystal Carter, a California Highway Patrol spokeswoman.

Carter said motorists should find alternative routes in order to avoid the area near the Federal Building, which is located at Wilshire Boulevard and Veteran Avenue.

The march is one of several that have occurred in the wake of Arizona's crackdown on illegal immigrants. Other marches have blocked traffic in downtown L.A.
