2.7-magnitude quake hits Orange County

A magnitude 2.7 earthquake struck the Irvine area in Orange County on Monday night but apparently caused no major damage, officials said.

The quake occurred about 10:22 p.m., according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The survey agency said the temblor was recorded about 2 miles northeast of Costa Mesa, 4 miles north of Newport Beach and 4 miles south of Santa Ana.

The Orange County Sheriff's Department said there were no reports of damage.
