Detectives probe two slayings in Carson, Palmdale

Los Angeles County sheriff's detectives are investigating two separate slayings Wednesday in Carson and Palmdale.

The first killing occurred shortly after 11 a.m. when a man was shot near Figueroa Avenue and West 228th Street near the 110 Freeway in Carson. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said.

Since January 2007, at least 24 homicides have been reported within two miles of the Carson shooting scene, according to a database by the Times' Homicide Report.

About 2:15 p.m, a man was shot in the 2700 block of East Palmdale Boulevard. He was pronounced dead at the scene, the department said. At least 27 homicides have been reported in Palmdale since January 2007, according to the database.

Detectives in both cases were still gathering evidence Wednesday evening. No arrests had been made, and the names of the victims were not released.
