Man arrested in meat thermometer attack during 'Shutter Island' screening

The L.A. County Sheriff's Department has arrested a suspect in the case of a moviegoer who was attacked with a meat thermometer during a screening of "Shutter Island" at a Lancaster theater last month.

The victim was stabbed  after complaining about someone nearby talking on a cellphone.LAN.BOULLARD.LANDRY.A187

Sheriff's Department spokesman Steve Whitmore said the suspect, Landry Boullard, 39, was taken into custody at 2 p.m. Wednesday at a home in the 800 block of East Avenue H-6 in Lancaster.

Detectives got an anonymous tip that led them to the home where the suspect was staying, Whitmore said.

Boullard was booked on suspicion of attempted murder and is being held on $1-million bail. Boullard is studying to be an air conditioning and refrigeration specialist, Whitmore said.

The Cinemark 22 was packed for a 9 p.m. Saturday screening of the Martin Scorsese thriller when the victim complained about a woman near him who was using a cellphone during the show. She and two men with her left the movie theater. Two men returned a few minutes later and stabbed the victim, Whitmore said.

The victim, who was not identified, was hospitalized with serious injuries. Two other moviegoers who came to the victim's aid were also were hurt during the attack, officials said.

I'm glad they caught that idiot. Stabbing someone in a theater? Second, why does he have a meat thermometer with him? Failed cook? Idiot.

He needs the meat thermometer shoved up his....well you know, behind.

Sounds like it was a A/C temp gauge..SO,, mr loser Landry Boullard, maybe, JUST maybe should be tossed into a FREEZER with his temp gauge..in his pocket..

Good! Whistle-blowers, don't let these fools deter you from calling someone out who is rude enough to use a cellphone, text, OR TALK during a movie! Hang tough! Tell the management if necessary, and DEMAND action!

That's exactly where the A**hole needs to be IN JAIL! HIS RUDE GIRLFRIEND AS WELL

hmm. guess the race?

I am sure they will release the meat thermometer attacker on grounds of a lean economy affecting the state prisons.

What kind of craziness is this? This ranks with people getting shot trying to stop graffiti. A woman who's talking on her phone during a movie is just rude and selfish. I would have said something too, but then she retaliates?

What in tarnation where those movie goers thinking? Don't they know it is rude to try and stop someone from talking on their cellphone during a movie, IN WHICH THEY PAYED GOOD MONEY FOR. How rude of those people. When will the average consumer realize that in a free market society, the key word is "free", to do what I want, when I want, and with whom I want. How dare they expect hardworking people to act like civilized human beings. Where do they think we are, America?

Nice, now he can study refrigeration in his cell. Prison staff should deprive him of a blanket for that exercise.

Why do losers like this one are even allowed to breathe air?

And the accomplices are not charged? Why...because they gave up information on the loser??? They are all guilty!

What a moron. Just ruined his life over a dumb thing.

Hopefully they throw this loser in jail for a long, long time. Keeping our streets safe from violent offenders should be the top priority of law enforcement, not raiding cannabis dispensaries.

This ought to increase the sales of DVDs of new movies so people can stay home where they're less likely to be attacked. If theatre owners would install cell blockers it would reduce at least one annoyance during the show.

Not much to guess, really. The photo in this article is of a film poster. The original article gave no description at all, despite the suspects being loose & dangerous. Obviously a theater full of witnesses saw something, and the cops recorded it, the authors simply didn't write it.

Clearly the LA Times unstated PC policy is to play down descriptions of non-white criminals, especially those of African descent, while giving front page color photos of the paler variety.

Not sure what the point is, but since most criminals socialize & victimize persons that resemble them (birds of a feather), the effect of loose criminals will be felt most keenly in their own communities.

Tommy T,
I don't think this guy had a life to begin with.

I wonder why the race of the attacker isn't mentioned.

If it was a white guy attacking a black guy I betcha hundred dollars it would be the headline.

hmm. guess the race?

-Ummmmm. Let me guess. White? Asian? Native American?

Mr. Blankstein,

If comments are moderated I have to wonder what are you screening for? Clearly you allow blatant racism (Comment #6), so what exactly are you blocking? Race-baiting doesn't exactly further the "dialogue."

Stabbing someone in a theater audience!? These are extremely dangerous people who should be given very long sentences. And if they ever get out they should not be allowed to live near anybody unless the neighbors are warned.

I would like to commend the LATimes for censoring his picture. It is important that we censor minority perp pics while also heavily broadcasting white perp pics.

yeah... wth!

What will it take for people to learn to have some respect!

Ill say this: back in the day that stuff would not fly- classical condition (although not the only reason, but a large contributor) with modern day music that glorifies and encourages people to be 'thug' and makes criminal behavior seem appealing!

another reason why i pirate their music (not cause i like it) but because they don't deserve to have it and i will not contribute to an industry that sells such filth!!!!

- back to topic... what is it with people and their need to be all prideful???
its like some men don't understand what its like to be a man... shhh, a real man wouldn't even be around a little girl that would be so rude!!!

In the '70's and '80's Lancaster was a heavenly place to live--very quiet and peaceful. You didn't have to lock your front door. If there was a murder or assault it was extremely rare. Now, of course, it is a hell pit that I wouldn't even stop in for 5 minutes to get gas or a bite to eat.
Crime in Lancaster, in every single category from murder, rape and assault to burglary, auto theft etc has been higher than the national average of US cities for at least 10 years running.
Check today's Antelope Valley Press for the latest crime reports--a Lancaster man was convicted of raping a 10 year old girl who was waiting in a theater hallway.
My advice to all civilized residents of Lancaster--get out while the gettins' good.

like i said a week ago, thank you gentrification and section 8. and it makes sense, he lives in east lancaster.

Re:"hmmm... guess the race".... sigh...He's black.( I googled the mugshot. )And you know what?...It's a sad but true commentary on the state of african american culture that we all pretty much knew that that was going to turn out to be the case. In fact, I suspect that if we had taken a poll of the people who had read the original article about the circumstances of what happened and asked them what race the guy will turn out to be when he is caught, I'm willing to bet that better than 95% of respondants would have said "black guy". And that prediction wouldn't even be racism- it's an accurate prediction based on an objective assesment and first-person observation of the attitudes and behaviors we see from black males every day as we go about our daily lives. The rudeness, the disrespect, the way they go out of their way to be offensive and obnoxious ( e.g. pants pulled dow to their knees and grabbing their crotches while they walk )and the very prevolant attitude that they can do anything they please, and if you dare to cross them in any way or even look at them wrong, there is a pretty fair chance that they are going to retaliate with viscious violence. We all have seen it so many times it's getting to be predictable. Case in point, the rapper idiot who tried to punch out Mitt Romney on a plane recently just because some 65 year old mormon white guy ( who was no threat to him whatsoever) had the audacity to ask him to put his seatback up for takeoff. That didn't surprise me one bit, because I've seen this so many times. It's happened to me too. Some thug in my apartment building was being so loud that I could hear him clear on the other side of the building with my windows and doors shut and the AC on. I knocked on his door and asked him to keep it down, and the guy threatened to kill me- and that was pretty well in line with quite a few other experiences in the past for me too. So I would say to people of color in this country- the truth is that the biggest thing holding you folks back/down now isn't racism any more. It's you. Your attitudes. Your choices. Your behaviors. It makes it very, very hard for the rest of us to get along with you. If you poeple truly want for us to all get along, then best thing you could do would be to conduct yourselves in a manner befitting the sacrifices that were made on your behalf by prior generations of better manners and higher charachter to give you the civil rights you now have and make such poor use of. I very much want good race relations in America, and I don't hate anybody based on their skin color. But for that to happen, blacks in this country need to start making more of an effort to behave in a way that makes that possible. White people were the problem once upon a time. The problem isn't us anymore. Just imagine where we would be in terms of race relations in this country today if black people conducted themselves like asian people do....nobody ever worries when they move in next door because they are quiet, polite, hard-working, respectful, and place a high value on education and manners... and you may not like what I am saying, but you also know it's the truth.
