Today on PolitiCal: Jerry Brown takes the plunge. Poizner, Whitman exchange barbs

Here are some of the stories we're following today on PolitiCal, our California politics blog:

State Atty. Gen. Jerry Brown made it official today, announcing his candidacy for governor in a three-minute Internet video.

Meanwhile, the two Republican challengers took turns criticizing each other in new campaign commercials.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger may not take a salary, but he did report more than $585,000 worth of gifts last year.

And some University of California students had some political advice for the governor after an unexpected meeting in the Capitol Monday.
