Ghetto-themed 'Compton Cookout' party raises ire at UC San Diego

A party thrown by UC San Diego fraternity students mocking Black History Month has school administrators up in arms.

UC San Diego officials are condemning the off-campus weekend ghetto-themed party, but they aren't likely to discipline anyone, according to Fox 5 News in San Diego.

The so-called Compton Cookout event urged all participants to wear chains, don cheap clothes and speak very loudly, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported. Female participants were encouraged to be "ghetto chicks.''

What else can one expect from a 2nd tier school?

"and speak very loudly."

I have to say that is damn funny.

Wow! A fraternity comprised of racist white boys that hold parties that degrade other races? Wow, who would have thought???

Hilarious!

It's very simple...

Allow UCSD to throw a "Cracker Cookout", or a "Honky Hoedown" Party and all will be forgiven. Don't you think???

I don't' recall hearing to much outcry a few years back when music videos portrayed that particular lifestyle, although women were treated more as sexual objects.

And....it's a frat, what do you expect? So long as these kind of exclusionary, segregationist, and pointless fraternities and sororities exist, there's always going to be BS, immature, degrading behavior because these organizations are an extension of high school. Getting drunk, getting high, hooking up, creating elaborate pranks, and the entire rush process gets adolescent and high school age kids excited...so for these grown-@$$ men and women to participate in these objectives, this Compton Cookout is not surprising. In my years at University, the quintessential frat had a Drinko for Cinco party "in honor of" Cinco de Mayo. Do I expect anymore from these kinds of guys and gals...nope.com!

A party thrown by UC San Diego fraternity students called "Compton Cook out" Which was a themed party had admins "up in arms"...When I first heard this I thought "Literally?". Word of advice for those rich frat boys instead of making it a "themed" party why not go throw your famed cook out on location? But that would ...be a whole new headline article.

If it was a White frat it is News if it was a Black frat it's no big deal. So was it Whites or Blacks.

why aren't the redneck parties making headlines? they have to be pregnant, drink cheap beer, toothless and speak very loudly.

Why wasn't the fraternity name mentioned? Or were the initials of the fraternity KKK?

Have you been to Compton?

Maybe they should have the party at Leuders Park to make it really authentic. I wonder how loud they would be there?

stupid wheat people

Maybe these fraternities need to take a lesson in American History to learn how hard and far minorities in this great nation have fought for equality and not be stereotyped by the so called "Elite Class." Or, should the African American fraternity on campus set up a "Hillbilly Jubilee?" TOLERANCE!

What a bunch of POSERS. Maybe they were paying homage to said ghetto lifestyle. God knows how many privileged kids grew up listening to hip hop.

Why the outrage, we know that all of Compton is not like that, but what the rappers and some of the citizens glorify is just that, loud, girls in little of nothing, men with all that gold, I am African American and my grandmother lived in Compton since 1952, and belive me, she was not having that foolishness out of her grandchildren, so I am not offended at all, just like EZ E, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre says "Straight out of Compton", but oh yea, they would never live there, nor did they stay around to try and help the youth of Compton...

Quote from the San Diego Tribune.

"e-mail obtained by The San Diego Union-Tribune from Gary Ratcliff, assistant vice chancellor for student life, linked the event to Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity."

Frat is mostly white.

That is hilarious. Very funny. I love how the PC police get all riled up. I crack up at the thought of people who think all fraternity guys are rich. Talk about a generalization! They should do an East LA party next. Still talking loudly.

Get back to me when a "White Trash" party makes news... What about Pimp and Hoe nights that I know LA and SD clubs have? Anyone? Anyone? I have been invited to a party thrown by a gay couple called "Fagtastic"... so therefore it isn't news. A straight party doing the same thing will get coverage.

When will this end? Get a sense of humor or get over yourself. This is not news- child abuse, domestic violence, search for a cure for cancer, the current economic crisis, destruction of the rain forest, murders, thefts... these are things to be bothered by. It wasn't on campus, nor sactioned by the school, and it was a private party. I wouldn't go, but I have no right to dictate what others do. That is called choice. If you don't like it, don't attend.

the wayan brothers do white chicks, complete with"dude, wheres my culture" shirt, and its ok. camillionaire mocks white people, and its ok. is there a double standard?

In other words, they are only imitating what they see on MTV and BET. What? Only Blacks can act that way? Talk about elitist!

The white parties are making headlines it's called Tea Parties.

this is nothing new..all the frat houses have 'em.

I am raging mad!! They'll get theirs! As soon as there's a White History month, I'm going to organize a Palos Verdes Party or a Beverly Hills Bash. Everyone will have to dress in suits and ties, have a mixed drink or some wine, and act like they have jobs.
