14-year-old shoots video of twister over Long Beach [Updated]

January 19, 2010 | 10:30 pm

Michael Lazovsky, a 14-year-old videographer from Los Angeles, captured compelling footage of a twister Tuesday afternoon over Long Beach.

Returning home after a visit to Orange County, the Lazovsky family pulled off the 405 freeway near Belmont Heights to get a better look at the funnel cloud, Michael said.

He grabbed his Panasonic HDD camera, got the shot and went home to post it on his YouTube channel, MiracleVids. By this evening the video had been viewed more than 300 times.

[Updated at 10:03 p.m. Jan 20: After further investigation, prompted by skeptical comments on YouTube and below, we have determined that the video, since removed from YouTube by the user, is definitely not what Michael claimed. It apparently is a copy of a video posted in 2008 -- of a twister in the Inland Empire town of Perris. We have posted the original video below.]
