Man and his dog shot in Hollywood Hills home invasion; four arrested

Four suspects were arrested this morning after a man and his dog were shot and injured during a home-invasion robbery in the Hollywood Hills, police said.

When officers arrived at the home in the 8200 block of Mannix Drive at about 1:40 a.m., they saw four suspects fleeing in a white Dodge Charger, said Officer Bruce Borihanh of the LAPD.

The three men and one woman were apprehended after a short chase, which ended when their car crashed into a parked vehicle at Pico and Hauser boulevards. Police did not immediately say why the house was targeted.

But "it was not a random crime," said Lt. Bob Binder, of the LAPD’s Hollywood division.

The victim was ordered at gunpoint to open a safe in his home, Binder said. He was shot in the neck and taken in stable condition to a nearby hospital.

His dog, a boxer-Weimaraner mix named Aslan (the same as the lion in "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe"), was shot through the ear and in the shoulder. The animal was in surgery at a veterinary clinic, Binder said.

The accident actually happened on Hauser, just a few houses south of Pico Boulevard on the east side of the street. At nine this morning police investigators were still on the scene and there was lots of activity in the surrounding block.
