L.A. police investigate death of Brittany Murphy

Los Angeles police have opened an investigation into circumstances surrounding the death of actress Brittany Murphy.

Police have been dispatched to Cedars-Sinai and to the Los Angeles home where Murphy, 32, went into cardiac arrest earlier today. Police sources emphasized that their inquiry was preliminary, adding they could not say whether it would point to any criminal conduct. [Note: An earlier version of this post incorrectly said the house was located in West Hollywood.]

L.A. city firefighters responded to a call from the home in the 1800 block of Rising Glen Road. Murphy was transported to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

Born in Atlanta, Murphy moved to Burbank with her mother at age 13. Her film break came in the movie "Clueless" (1995), in which she starred opposite Alicia Silverstone.

Murphy has made dozens of other film appearances, including in "Girl Interrupted" (1999), "8 Mile" (2002), "The Dead Girl" (2006), and "Across the Hall" (2009). She also was featured as the voice of Luanne in the animated TV series "King of the Hill."

Murphy specialized in playing characters who were troubled teenagers or mentally disturbed, according to a biography on industry website Internet Movie Data Base.

Murphy was married in 2007 to British screenwriter Simon Monjack, the website said.

Im suprised u noe i never knew your name but i was watching the news a 6:00 or so and i seen your pictures i said "Thats my idol daddy my favorite actress has passed " and yeah for a young girl you were my only inspiring actress i had left .... but now when i heard i was crying tears fall on my keyboard as i type ILY I LOVE YOU BRITTANY MURPHY

I can't believe what I am reading. I just watched a movie with her in it with Ashton Kutcher the other day and was discussing with my roomate about all the movies that she had been in. It is unbelievable that she is gone now and it is a shame because she was such a talented and beautiful actress. She wasn't one of those fake Hollywood actresses and seemed real. I really feel for her parents and her husband and they will be in my prayers. I just recently lost my son at the age of 15 in May of this year and there is no pain like loosing a child. I don't think I will ever be over it. I hope that both her husband and her parents find the inner strength to go on. I really hate that this happened especially right before Christmas. I know that I am not looking forward to it this year as it is the first one without my son, Cameron. Trust and believe that they will be in my prayers.

In my eyes, Brittany was one of the most talented and lovable actresses out there! She had a way with that innocent sweet smile and big eyes that melted your heart! She will be very missed and I am sad that she passed at such a young age. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to her family and may they get through this tragedy with the least pain possible. God Bless and may she rest peacefully.

I was so saddened to hear of Brittney's passing. I did read online where Brittney was a diabetic. Anyone with this condition knows that it is a tough disease that I think is totally overlooked and not recognized as a daily burden in life. Brittney was one tough lady to have overcome this daily obstacle and become one of the most talented, brillant actresses in Hollywood today. I will miss her bubbly and contagious personality but her spirit will live on and thank goodness for the wonderful films she has left for us to enjoy. I can see her getting her angel wings and smiling that sweet and funny little smile. God bless her family and our prayers and thoughts are with you at this time.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Brittany Murphy's Husband and Family at this time, What a tragic end to this beautiful and talented young actress. We will miss her very much. I was wondering when she was going to star in another movie cause it had been such a long time since I seen her in a film. I loved her as the voice of Luann on King Of The Hill.

ill miss u
