Ho, ho, ho: Flight to the North Pole for children under the county's care

December 5, 2009 | 11:35 am

About 130 children in the custody of the Los Angeles County Department of Family and Children Services will take part in a mock flight to the North Pole today.

The flight to Santa’s home is set to depart from LAX in a Boeing 747 this afternoon. As they are flown around Catalina Island and the L.A. Basin, flight attendants will serve the children.

When the plane lands, the arrival gate will have been transformed into a Christmas wonderland. Disney characters and superheroes will welcome the children. Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus will arrive on a firetruck to greet them.

Face painting and Christmas sing-alongs are among the activities planned. The children also will receive gifts.

The 16th annual Fantasy Flight was organized by United Airline employees in the Los Angeles World Airports region.
