Family, friends remember Brittany Murphy at funeral service

Brittany Murphy was laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in the Hollywood Hills on Thursday, with friends and family recalling the late actress' life and work.

"A bright light that lit the world is forever dimmed, but will live on in the hearts of those that Brittany touched," her family said in a statement. "Brittany was an incredibly loving and passionate person and an artist to her core."

According to the Associated Press, the Christmas Eve ceremony lasted into the evening. A Christian minister and a rabbi presided over the service and guests sang "Amazing Grace" at the grave site.

The memorial was "very nice, very respectful," longtime family friend Alex Ben Block told the AP, which also reported that Murphy's husband, British screenwriter Simon Monjack, spoke about their relationship and gave an emotional eulogy.

Murphy died Sunday of a sudden cardiac arrest, officials said. She was 32. A law enforcement source, who declined to be named because of the ongoing investigation, said Murphy suffered internal bleeding before her death.

It was unclear whether an underlying medical condition might have caused or contributed to her death. She was taking prescription drugs for medical ailments, authorities said.

Los Angeles Police Department officials said today that they have finished their initial investigation into Murphy's death and concluded that there were no signs that a crime occurred.

The medical examiner has completed an autopsy, but an official cause of death will be deferred until tests determine what substances, if any, were in her system.

I had the pleasure of meeting Brittany Murphy this year in Eugene, OR while she was filming "Something Wicked". I am certainly not a famous person (just an aspiring author bringing Joy) but in the time I spent with her she treated me like "I" was the star.

She was charming, modest, polite, gracious, cheerful. supportive and talked about her mother's endless love for her. I was amazed and impressed with her on every level. She was such delightful company.

I was in shock to read such sad news, and revolted to read the ridiculous and trashy rumors about her. Her love of her family was evident in everything she said. My heart goes out to her mother, family, husband and friends. The world has truly lost a brilliant light. Thanks for The Light and Godspeed - God Bless You Brittney and

r.i.p.

The bright light this wonderful girl radiated is not gone ~ Brittany will always be with us - it was pleasure to meet her just briefly a few times - and once - just once looking into her eyes is unforgettable.

People come and go in this industry ~ Brittany's presence with always be here.

A rare light - a rare girl - let her live forever.

"With One Look ........"

This is old news now. And I am quite surprised that Brittney Murphy would still be in the headlines. Its not like she was Michael Jackson, Ana Nicole, etc.

But I do think that many Hollywood actors if not most have a drug problem.

They'll never learn.

Doesn't it just remind you that you're going to die too? Please receive Jesus Christ the Savior today.

RIP Brittany Murphy :(

first off i would like to say R.I.P. Brittany..I was shocked to hear the news..You will be remembered..

now this is to brooke..she didnt abuse any drugs they were all for legit conditions..the doctors that prescribed them should have paid more attention to the meds she was on to b careful and not mix something that shouldnt have been mixed and also done different exams..some of the meds she was causes liver damage..for example Topamax which yes is for migraines and something else but also for seizures..How do I know? My 19yr old mhmr brother is on Topamax and has to have at least blood work done and also have his liver checked every 3mnths..its mostly the doctors that need to pay more attention to all the meds their patients are taking..you only hear of celeberties dieing of things like this but never hear about regular non celeberties deaths bc of this..it happens to alot of people not just the rich and famous..

I was shocked to hear this...She seems to be a sweet little lady on the screen and off...They need to have better regulations on precription drugs. I do not think she and many others really know all bout their medication. This is a tragedy.

I hope the coroners office checked her for h1n1 by way of PCR testing. I think she died from that. She had all the symptoms and why when you are having shortness of breath and severe stomach pain are you not admitted to a hospital.
That is very strange. I bet the autopsy shows very little and if so I will be it was due to the H1N1 virus. In some people, it is a killer.

This is an awful time for everyone, even if they didnt know her personally. Me, just being a fan of brittanys, was heartbroken, and shocked. Im sure no one knows EXACTLY what happened to her, but at the time it doesn't matter, because finding out isn't gonna bring her back. Everyone should all just remember what kind of person she was, and for those who were friends or family members that actually knew her, be thankful to have known her and keep her in your hearts. because im sure she would keep u in hers. People pass away everyday, and sadly, it was her time to go. It is an awful feeling, i know fromm personal experience, but EVERYTHING gets better in time.

To Brittanys family: i am so sorry for your loss.
And Brittany: We're all gonna miss you very much. R.I.P

R.I.P

i never thought she might have had the flu. hopefully that is it, and not an overdose. although, if she did have the h1n1, taking all those other meds surely compounded the problem. i just really didn't like the fact that they ruled her death ''natural causes'' less than one day after she died. u can't determine that without an autopsy. white celebrities always get soft-patted in the media.

It is sad she passed away at such a relatively (32) young age. Something caused this, either some kind of medical problems or she took to many prescription med's or a combination of both. A lot of these so called doctor's get star struck and give these celebrities whatever they want in prescription med's like it is M&M's. I don't think they tell them all the risk involved.

this is so sad,i loved her she was a great actress

all i have to say is what a tragedy... it really is sad she was sooooo beautiful and sooo talented. but what really upsets me is why they havent had anything on tv or the news or a memorial show. when micheal jackson died he was all over the place... i think she deserves some regonization
