Residents in burn area say they will stay put unless ordered to leave

Married couple In Chang Kim and Chin Sook Kim, who live in La Cañada Flintridge, said tonight they would stay put unless they were told to evacuate. The longtime residents live up a hill just southwest of the La Cañada Country Club, where flames from the Station fire came within yards of their neighborhood.

Throughout the night, one or the other left the toasty environs of their living room and walked into the downpour to check the color of the water flow coming down the hill. So far it has been clear, a relief because muddy water might indicate an overflow and an imminent mudslide.

"Nothing so far," said In Chang Kim.

K-rails have been installed all over the neighborhood, and the Kims said trucks come by regularly to clear debris along their road to create a basin for the debris that flows during heavy rains.

"I know it's gonna be heavy tonight," said Chin Sook Kim. "We are hoping for the best."
