Three killed in overnight shootings in Inglewood, West Covina

November 1, 2009 | 12:54 pm

Three people were killed early this morning in two separate shootings, authorities said. One person died after being struck by gunfire at a Halloween-night party in West Covina, and two others were fatally wounded in a drive-by shooting in Inglewood.

In Inglewood, a 25-year-old man and a woman, 23, were standing with a small group of people outside a home in the 400 block of North Edgewood Street when shots were fired from a passing car, said Inglewood Police Sgt. Mike Bolliger.  The man was struck in the head, and the woman was hit in the chest.

Bolliger said the suspect or suspects fired randomly into the group.

The man and woman were taken to separate local hospitals, where they died. Their names were not immediately released.

Bolliger said detectives believe the shooting was gang-related. He asked that anyone with information about the killings call the department’s homicide detectives at (310) 412-5246.

In West Covina, a Halloween-night party turned deadly when one of four people involved in a fight went to a car to get a handgun.  At about 12:50 a.m., witnesses told police, they saw a man getting a gun from a dark-colored car parked near the party in the 1800 block of South Shadydale Avenue. That was just moments before the shooting, said West Covina Police Cpl. Rudy Lopez.

A man in his 20s was struck in the upper torso and died at the scene, Lopez said. A 40-year-old man was wounded in the wrist and was treated at a local hospital. The names of the victims were not immediately released.

The gunman fled in the dark-colored car, which was driven away by a woman, Lopez said.

He asked anyone with information to call detectives at (626) 939-8557 or the anonymous hotline at (626) 939-8688.

wow when will it ever end?

wow. so where is the gun control? it will never happen and it's sad. our government doesn't care.

I'll miss you Claudia.

YES this is sad and YES it is on going and YES it seems no one cares. I heard these shots rang out in my neighborhood and in less than five minutes I heard the sirens. This broke my heart. I had to go out to pick my teenaged daughter up from a halloween party and saw the police and taped off area and it left me in total shock and fear for EVERYone. This is becoming very common in the city of Inglewood. I feel like I am living in a nightmare. It's not only the city the world is on fire and it seems to be blazing out of control. Public school is suppose to be a place of education and it hasn't been for quiet some time now. The violence and brutality is coming from all angles. From the civilians the police the children on children hate crimes. How can we have hope. Where would one begin to fix this mess?

ANY MORE INFORMATION ON THE INGLEWOOD CASE? VICTIMS NAMES? OTHER ARTICLES?

ANY OTHER ARTICLES ON THIS SHOOTING?

It's so ridiculous how you can't even celebrate anymore with family and friends and not get preyed upon by these low-life, low budget cowardly gang bangers that wait for a chance to kill anyone they can. This family will forever have very bad memories of this day, I really hope and pray that whoever did this is found, and brought to justice, and I'm sure they will one day too meet this same fate.

I live in Inglewood. I heard the shots that killed these two people. I am deeply affected by this continous murdering going on.

this sucks... you can't even express your heart felt sentiment without it being edited..why aren't the laws as strict when it comes to violence by editing the media gun control etc.
