Santa Monica group wants to expand no-smoking laws

Some Santa Monica residents want to expand local no-smoking laws to balconies and patios.

Santa Monicans for Non-Smoking Renters Rights also wants the city to create nonsmoking sections for multifamily residential buildings, including individual units.

The group already has successfully lobbied the City Council to ban smoking in common areas of apartments and condominiums.

Insane! Soon jurisdictions will pass a law prohibiting people from passing wind.

A perfect example of they kind of tyranny that would come under Obamacare.

Welcome to the people's republic of Santa Monica.

This has nothing to do with Obama or health care reform and everything to do with insane local politics and a lack of common sense and courtesy - for which we do not need legislation.

I don't smoke and I live in a Santa Monica apartment and if someone wants to smoke outside I don't care. I can always close my window.

And if the problem is greater than that I can simply speak with my neighbor instead of calling the police. This is crazy. And so are laws like this.

I have an idea for the smokers. Quit smoking.

I will quit smoking as soon as I can stop paying for fat people's medical conditions. Fat people conditions cost more than smokers do annually.

I say everyone gets health cards. If you are fat, your orders at resturants are restricted. And the food you buy at a grocery stores are limited!

Socialism for all!

While all you smucks are focusing on the 'second hand smoke' the industrial folks are posioning our bodies with other toxic chemical that will make you wish for the effects of second hand smoke.

Do not follow the herd as it is so popular ni SoCal!

Seriously, i wish this could be done all over los angeles and the san fernando valley. smokers are pigs with no consideration for others. we cannot even open our apartment windows without neighbors smoke coming in and stinking our home, not to mention, people cannot even enjoy having dinner at an outside patio restaurant or even a coffee on the patio of starbucks without it being ruined by someone elses disgusting habits. smoking should be outlawed because second hand smoke is disgusting and kills.

Who even smokes now days...You see immigrants fresh off the boat chain smoking, but they don't know any better...

If you want to smoke, smoke...They should devise a cigarette with 10 times the tar and nicotine so you get that deep down in your lungs menthol freshness which will only enhance the pleasure for smokers...

Smokers Unite....Stop the Man from extinguishing your cigs....

i am so happy to see other's who recognize the effects of the fascist agenda of controlling lives of people they don't like. it's about time to call their bluff, let's see the death certificate's of people who actually died because of second hand smoke or third hand smoke (what crap!) this is nothing but the same Nazi propaganda that was used in the '30's to build a master race. none of these annoying people seem to complain about the REAL toxins floating around like when their driving their Rang Rovers and stinking up the air. maybe you should all move to a even more liberal, restrictive place like the republik of Vermont.

Good! Smoking is a disgusting and deadly habit that should be driven out of existence by any means necessary. Remember: It's not because we hate smokers; we hate having to breathe their poison and hate having to see their cigarette butts all over the sidewalk.
