Motorcyclist killed in 100-mph crash on 101

A 20-year-old motorcyclist was killed today when he crashed into a metal guardrail on the 101 Freeway at an estimated 100 mph, authorities said.

The unidentified rider was traveling eastbound about 2:28 p.m., when he struck the guardrail on the right shoulder just west of the 405 Freeway, said California Highway Patrol Officer Jose Nunez.

The man, who lived in Sherman Oaks, was thrown from his 2009 Suzuki motorcycle, Nunez said.

He was pronounced dead half an hour later at Sherman Oaks Hospital.

It's so sad. Our young people are killing themselves at such an alarming rate.

That is truly sad. It's amazing how fast people drive on our highways. It's a wonder more people aren't killed. Slow down for crying out loud. I feel sad for the young man's family

I had occasion to be on the 101 Sunday afternoon traveling west toward thousand Oaks. Having now lived in Northern California for the last five years I had forgotten just how bad the traffic is. There is more traffic on a Sunday afternoon on the 101 than during a week day rush hour on I80 or I5 in Sacramento.
Most traffic was traveling about 75 mph with many going 80 mph or more and the occasional motorcycle passing all of them.

They are not any better drivers here, just less of them.

Sadly, he suffered the consequences of his decisions to speed.

Sad for his family.
Thank God he didn't kill anybody on the freeway.

100 mph on the freeway = death or mayhem.

What's sad is my insurance premium goes up because of reckless young male drivers pattern of roadway fatalities! Insurance companies charges male drives way much more than female drives due to statistics. This isn't new news, its actually very common across America. Aggressive young, male drives and testosterone don't mix at all.

My condolences to the young man and his family. Young people often make errors in judgment, and usually, they live to learn from them. But on a motorcycle, you often don't get a second chance. Careful out there, my fellow motorcyclists.

It sure would be lousy to get a call at 3 in the morning that your kid died going 100 mph

I know the family. My condolences to them in this difficult time.

He gets a nomination for a Darwin Award.

Thank God that idiot didn't kill an innocent motorist...They need to confiscate his property and pay for the guardrail.

I wonder how much money we spent with police, fire and medical by responding to the scene and attempting to save this guys life...

idiot. glad he didnt kill anybody else.

Idiot

I have nothing to say about this.

GOOD ...ONE LESS IDIOT ON THE ROAD ..... P.S. IVE BEEN RIDING FULL TIME FOR 20 PLUS YEARS

Why are so many people saying this is a sad story? I wish every idiot who runs from the police and creates havoc in our city would get killed. There are too many people here as it is.

People think they are invincible on those rockets. i see it all the time on the freeways, these motorcyclists flying by at high speed. Its sad to hear, my friend was killed in crash on a bike and every-time i hear it its chilling. So sad to hear another senseless death. R.I.P

My condolences to his family who lost him at such a young age. I want to encourage drivers to pay attention to what's going on around them. I've often been on my bike, and had to move faster to avoid drivers cutting me off, talking on the phone, or doing other dangerous activity. We all have to share the road responsibly.

Darwin at work.

I passed by that accident because we got on the 101 west to get to the 405 north and that on ramp i guess doesnt exist so we had to go to bryhurst and come back around to get on the 405 north and we saw the aftermath. his shoe was on the 405 north ramp. There were a lot of folks who stopped and tried to help. I guess a helmet was not enough. 100mph???? it was a lot of traffic to be doing that.

As a 65 year old motorcyclist I am often concerned about other motorcyclists speeding through traffic. I call them organ donors. I have often thought it is amazing that young men make it to middle age as we all thought we were indestructible.

I see so many idiot motorcyclists every day on the freeway, speeding between cars no matter how fast/slow traffic is moving (don't get me wrong, I see idiots in cars every day as well). This person just happened to come face-to-face with reality.
How are we supposed to think/feel about these things? Are we supposed to just turn a blind eye and think that he's an idiot and this is Darwinsim? Does that make us less human?
A part of me doesn't feel sorry for him as this was his choice (unless his throttle got stuck wide-open?). Why should I? In fact, a part of me thinks that @ least he didn't hurt anyone else with his stupidity.

On the other hand, it's a shame that he thought he was impervious to the risks, and in the end his parents might have lost a great son, or maybe he had already started a family that he can't provide for anymore?

for Tirau, that guy happened to be my brother.so next time think about what you say before you open your mouth and make judgemnets nobody needs from you.hopefully you never have to experience something like this so someone like you comes around and tells you I told you so.have a great life ...since your still alive.

sad sad story - this is why I don't particularly like to read the news though - predominant reporting of sad and tragic events. No wonder we're a depressed society.
