Long Beach police to announce arrest in student's slaying

Long Beach police said they will announce an arrest this evening in connection with the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old Wilson High School student after the homecoming football game Friday night.

Melody Ross was with a group of students when she was shot about 10 p.m near Ximeno Avenue and 10th Street, police said. Two men, an 18-year-old and 20-year-old,  ere wounded.

The announcement will be made at news conference scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Long Beach Police Department headquarters.
