Sen. John Kerry's daughter arrested in Hollywood on suspicion of drunk driving [Updated]
The daughter of Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) was arrested in Hollywood early this morning for alleged drunk driving.
Los Angeles police say Alexandra Kerry, 36, was stopped by police during a traffic stop at about 12:40 a.m.
“Officers detected signs and symptoms of being under the influence of alcohol,” said LAPD Officer Bruce Borihanh.
Kerry was booked at the Hollywood police station and held until 5:25 a.m. after she posted $5,000 bail. Borihanh said he did not know what Kerry’s blood-alcohol level was.
Alexandra Kerry is the eldest daughter of John Kerry, the 2004 Democratic Party presidential nominee.
[Updated at 2 p.m.: A spokeswoman for Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) said that Alexandra Kerry was pulled over for an expired vehicle registration and was released after the results of a Breathalyzer test at the police station were under the legal limit.
“Sen. Kerry supports his daughter and will have no further comment on a private matter,” said Jodi Seth, a Kerry spokeswoman.
Richard French, a spokesman for the LAPD, said he did not know Kerry’s blood alcohol level and could not confirm whether it was under the legal limit.
“When it comes to drunk driving or impaired driving because of alcohol, it is at the traffic officer’s discretion,” French said. “Many people could be under the legal limit and still be impaired. The blood alcohol level is not as important as to how impaired her driving was.”]

People went after Bush and his daughters because the Bush family, and most of the conservatives who support him and Sarah Palin, professes to be the standard bearers of traditional values and morality. Yet they fall to the same thing that undermines us all - our own human frailties.

So "the answers" answer is what? If you're a scummy drainpipe dwelling skidmark it is perfectly ok to ruin your own life, be in a position to possibly ruin someone else's life, and be a huge drain on your family and society because you don't give a bleep about yourself. And those, who care about society and want people to be responsible for their actions are cannon fodder for those who don't give a bleep? My, the conservatives are looking better everyday.

Why the long face? She gets released after 4.5 hours "after the results of a Breathalyzer test at the police station were under the legal limit. " What was the level when she was taken into custody?

Kerry is a liar. They would not have held her for FIVE HOURS for an expired registration! Please!

Why do the police need to go after pot dispensaries? What harm are they causing, except not bringing tax dollars as they do up in Oakland? She will only get off if she has a BAA level below 08 as you can argue the grey areas. anything higher than she will have to face some punishment. the fact is, she is in the top 10 percent of Americans who can afford proper legal help. She can afford to pay 200-300 an hour for an attorney, whereas 90 percent of Americans cannot...especialy in LA where everyone just swallows the court fees and DUI fees and does their punishment. If everyday Americans could afford legal help for only 35 a month and you could have 24 hour access, would that be helpful?

Geez, people. I'm not saying she should get a pass, but drunks aren't the problem here. The police are. They need to redirect their attention to other things -- like Craigslist prostitution.

I don't see the reason why John Kerry should be held accountable or even involved in a possible DUI arrest of his fully grown, 36-year old daughter.
However, his status as a politician should not affect how this case should be handled by the police -- just like every other DUI arrest, the BAC should be made known and there should be appropriate penalties or fines imposed.

It's a good thing that she didn't have a boy toy in the car and there were no rivers in the area. Her dad is much like Teddy Kennedy and the apple doesn't fall far from the tree in the democrat's world.... a life was saved......

I checked the LA County booking system (public access via the LASD's Inmate Information Center website) and I could not find her in the booking system...
If this had been in Mass., she would have walked. If any cops there had arrested her Senator Kerry would have their heads on a platter...they would have been fired and black-listed by Kerry and the their own police union (Fraternal Order of Police, affiliated with the Teamsters, big Democratic Party stuff). At least in LA and in CA in general the police are more white-collar and professional...you won't get off if you are rich and famous (just ask OJ, Britanny, Bobby, Michael, etc). You may not get convicted but the LAPD will book you like anyone else.

Bet you didn’t know that you can be arrested for drunk driving even when you aren’t drunk. But, it’s true.
You can be arrested and convicted for drunk driving below the legal limit in all 50 states. Some states set a “presumptive intoxication” level of .04 or .05, but police in every state may arrest motorists whom they deem intoxicated – regardless of what the breathalyzer says.
“Presumptive intoxication” is one excuse car companies will use to set interlocks below the legal limit when they starting put the devices are in all cars.

She's the daughter of a Ma. senator. What do you expect? She probably would blow a .10 without ever drinking.
