Gunman kills 15-year-old boy at East L.A. party
A 15-year-old boy was shot and killed late Friday night while attending a house party in East Los Angeles, authorities said.
The shooting was reported about 11:20 p.m. in the 700 block of South McDonnell Avenue, near Whittier Boulevard, said Deputy Aura Sierra of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. The teen, identified by coroner officials as Jessy Acosta, got into a fight at the party with a man between 17 and 21 years old, authorities said.
The man pulled out a handgun during the fight and shot Acosta in the upper torso, then fled, Sierra said. Paramedics pronounced Acosta dead at the scene, coroner officials said.
Sheriff's investigators were interviewing some partygoers hoping to obtain information about the gunman. About 75 people were at the party.
Anyone with information about the shooting can call the Sheriff's Department's homicide squad at (323) 890-5500. Callers can remain anonymous.

Nowadays you don't have to a gang member to be shot. Kids love to dress like one: shaved head, long shorts, white socks and tatoos is enough.

Jessy was a student of mine at Roosevelt. I don't know if he was a gang member but he did fit the profile. I didn't know him very well because he hardly ever attended class. It's a shame his life ended this way. Wish I had a chance to get to know him more.

The home owner is at fault, and the parents that allowed it.. You go to a house party with little or no supervision.. You know the area is "Hot" for this type of crime. Even if you throw an innocent birthday party, and you know most of the people, but then you have some clowns show up, asking for free beer, you must comply, or get hurt. If you live in East Los Angeles no matter how innocent your event is going to be... You must! Hire armed (professional) security. This is usually the breakdown (2) inside, (2) at the door, and (2) outside on the sidewalk, why? Because most of these clowns, will spray a party with bullets, for whatever the reason, and you need outside coverage to return fire. That is the reality... Shootings in East Los Angeles are common, especially at these parties? Please don't be emotional with me...about why it happens.... It's in our nature of you live in East Los... Sad... but since I can remember from the late 80's, it has not stopped..
