Ex-Inglewood officer pleads no contest in off-duty gun brandishing incident

November 4, 2009 |  2:54 pm
A former Inglewood police officer who allegedly flashed a firearm at a motorist in a threatening manner while off-duty pleaded no contest today, the Los Angeles County district attorney's office announced.

Officer Michael Lewis Robinson, 44, was charged with one felony count of brandishing at a person in a motor vehicle and one misdemeanor count of assault with a deadly weapon, authorities said.

The charges stem from an incident on March 31, 2008, in which Robinson was driving down the 405 Freeway with his two children – ages 6 and 11 – when he allegedly flashed a firearm in a threatening manner at another driver, authorities said.

Deputy District Atty. Amy Pellman Pentz said the incident could be characterized as an act of road rage. “A person with no self-control should not be a police officer or own a gun,” she said.

Lewis is expected to be sentenced to three years' probation after completing 250 hours of community service and an anger management program.

He is ordered to return for sentencing on May 19, 2011.

The only good cop is a dead one.

Oh come on now! Are you kidding me? A civilian would be given a harsher sentence than community service & probation. He should get a stiffer sentence BECAUSE he's a former police officer. He should have known better!

Good, I live in Inglewood were the cops can be compared to another gang. The funny thing is I attended high school with some of these so called officers, and yes they were dorks. Dorks who now have power to harass and shoot unarmed homeless.

Think about it, I am a 30 year old male who would not trust today s 21,22 year old's with a BB gun , but yet we deputies some of them.

Show me a responsible 21,22,23 year old and i will show you Bigfoot.

I'd have to know what the clown was doing at the time which provoked the officer to point his gun in a threatening manner...Before I pass judgement...

someone needs to b doing some jail time he did pull a gun out at another person just because
