2 men arrested in fatal hit-and-run in Montebello

Suspect_3Two men were arrested today in connection with a hit-and-run accident in which an 84-year-old Montebello woman was killed while using her walker to cross a street.

Nora Lambo, whose late husband was a former mayor of Montebello, was struck about 6:15 p.m. Monday as she crossed Jefferson Boulevard at Alfred Place. Her dog also was struck and killed, police said. Lambo was pronounced dead at the scene.

David Louis Lorea, 36, of Montebello was arrested on suspicion of driving the vehicle that hit Lambo, police said. McArthur Gutierrez Mutuz, 40, of San Gabriel was arrested on suspicion of being an accessory.

Investigators arrested the pair after receiving numerous tips from the public, said Sgt. Luis Lopez of the Montebello Police Department. The vehicle suspected of striking Lambo was recovered in a body shop and was being repaired, police said.

Lambo was hit by a pickup truck that dragged her walker after it got caught on the front bumper, Lopez said. Before fleeing the scene, the driver stopped the vehicle to allow his passenger to remove the walker.

Illegals?????

Run 'em over!

Execute them both. Next...

Hit and run cases, especially when the victims die and there are no witnesses, have always remained unsolved. I'm glad to know that these two have been arrested considering how cold-blooded they were when they not just only ran over an old woman and her dog, but also managed to stop the vehicle to take her walker off the vehicle. They could have just helped her or taken her to a hospital. I really hope these two go to jail for a long time because they obviously have little regard for human life.

I know of the personal cost to the victim and families of people injured or killed in hit and run incidents. My mother was the victim of a hit and run driver in another state. The event eventually cost my mother her life home, her freedom, and eventually her life. My children will never know their grandmother. Although the driver was eventually caught, he served a pittance of a sentence in comparison to the devastation he wrecked on my mother and her family. In the after math of his release from prison, he also failed to fulfill his requirement of paying victim's restitution. I suspect he will continue to injure members of the general public, not necessarily through traffic accidents, but through consequences of the public coming in coincidental contact with such an irresponsible and callous individual. Unfortunately, these people are increasingly circulating in general public just by virtue of our society's increasing propensity to blame others and refuse to take responsibility for one's own actions. Sadly, as a result I see hit and runs reported in the news on an increasingly frequent basis. Cowardice before honor?
