Streets in Carthay Circle shut down as police search for gunman

October 23, 2009 |  5:51 pm

Streets in the Carthay Circle area were shut down this afternoon as the Los Angeles Police Department searched for a suspected gunman who allegedly broke into a nearby home.

The incident began about 2:40 p.m. when residents reported hearing rapid gunfire around the corner from Olympic Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue.

According to LAPD spokeswoman Norma Eisenman, the suspect ran into a home and offered to pay the resident to let him hide there. The resident refused and the gunman fled.

But the resident managed to take a photo of the suspect, which police are now using in their search.
