Shots fired at Oxnard juvenile court; gunman sought

October 19, 2009 | 10:58 am

Shots were fired this morning at a courthouse in Oxnard, and authorities were searching for the gunman.

The juvenile courthouse and the juvenile justice center on Vineyard Avenue in Oxnard were locked down and more than two dozen deputies were on scene.

The shots were fired shortly after 9 a.m. and at least one hit a courthouse window. No one was injured.

Capt. Bruce Norris of the Ventura County Sheriff's Department said deputies have set up a half-mile perimeter around the courthouse.

Bad guys are attacking the judicial systems. We thought this could only happen in Iraq or Mexico. Looks like society is breaking down faster than we want.

This is not a good sign. Could this shooting be gang-related? Thankfully no one was injured. More details please.

Good! The crimes the court has committed against the children are BEYOND HORRIFYING.

Im 15 and i was there this morning and couldn't believe what was happening.I was stuck in the car with my mom and social worker and a lady who happened to be waiting outside in our car. It was two hours before we could leave. Ive never been more terrified in my life.

I was there and sitting next to the glass when I heard the gun shots. I got up, ran and dropped to my knees and crawled to the bathroom entrance. About 2 minutes later, a shot was fired once again, while deputies in all court rooms came out with guns drawn. It was insane!
