One killed, two critically injured in Leimert Park vehicle collision

Picture 1One person died and two others were in critical condition this afternoon after a car allegedly ran a red light in Los Angeles and collided with another vehicle, authorities said.

An officer in a  California Highway Patrol cruiser saw the vehicle run the light about 3:15 p.m. near 11th Avenue and Vernon Avenue in Leimert Park, police said. The officer tried to pull over the driver, but the vehicle smashed into another vehicle, said Officer Rosario Herrera of the Los Angeles Police Department.

The names of the victims were not released. Two of the injured people were taken to a hospital in critical condition, and the third person had minor injuries, the Los Angeles Fire Department said.

A very vague story. Was this a police chase? Sounds like it may be with another innocent killed because of a law enforcement chase undertaken because of a traffic law violation.

Nice jump to conclusions, Peter, but according to Channel 7 news, the officer was trying to get into position to make the stop when the car took off and crashed. Should the officers now not even try to stop cars? And your post should read "because of a suspect committing a felony by fleeing undertaken because of a traffic law violation." One is required to stop at the request of a police officer, in case you've forgotten.
