Fire near Thousand Oaks 100% contained, officials report

October 4, 2009 | 10:21 pm

A Ventura County fire has been contained and is expected to be extinguished by Monday evening, authorities said this evening.

The blaze is currently burning over 56 acres but has been fully surrounded by fire breaks, said Capt. Ron Oatman, a Ventura County Fire Department spokesman.

"We don’t expect it to get any bigger," he said.

The Rancho fire apparently started in an open area between Thousand Oaks and Lake Sherwood and did not affect any homes, officials said.

About 400 firefighters were dispatched, along with helicopters and at least one air tanker. Officials expect the fire to be put out by early Monday evening, Oatman said.
